Ramadan- WHERE DID THE SISTER GO WITH HIJAB MOVIE Q?

This is the second time this has happened to me… I was in the middle of answering a question and the question disappeared I wasnt able to answer it… I put alot of time and effort into a good answer so here it is…

The sister asked about a movie which claimed that hiab wasnt fard… instead it was cultural>>>

Here is my relply

SalamOAlaikom sister,

I find that video verry misguiding! It doesnt even show the main verse where Allah orders hijab!

Yes it is true the women have worn a head covering from before the time of Mohammed. But that is not before the time of Islam! Islam has been here since creation! Adam was a muslim, he bowed his will to that of GOD ALMIGHTY, Abraham was a Muslim, he bowed his will to that of God Almighty Jesus was a Muslim He bowed his will to that of God Almighty. They all taught Hiab and HiJab was fard from the begening of time for Muslims -ignorantly called Jewdism and Christianity-

Just because it is a part of previous culture doesnt mean that it’s not a part of Islam.
Sister did you know that Tawaff (cicumambulating the Kaaba) was done by Abraham? Did you know that fasting was done by the previous prophets and was considered fard? Did you know that Sejewwed was done my all the previous prophets? The fact that the Arabs fasted and the fact that the arabs made tawaff before Mohammed ordained it to be FARD doesnt mean that Fasting and Tawaff (Hajj) arent a part of Islam. Simalaraly the fact that women and men wore hijab before Mohammed ordained it to be FARD doesnt mean that it is a cultural thing!

There are MANY Scholars who believe that it is FARD, OBLIGATORY! For centuries for 1,400 years… so they are all wrong? Who says so… a few women who try to pervert the Quranand who dont even consider the Hadith… it’s sad. HOW DARE WE reject what ALLAH swt had ordained, AstaferALLAH (may ALLAH have mercy on us)!

If she still steadfast in her ignorance you should bring up the point of the Sahabas and how they lived theor life. Their wives also took the HIJAB as fard! Who can say that they understand ISLAM better than the Sahabbas? Better than AbuBakr… the companions who learned the deen directly from the prophet (p). The correct understanding is that of the Sahabah… if someone is trying to understand the deen in the 21st century better than the sahabbah THAT LIVED WITH Mohammed! (p) then they are on a rocky path!

I have not always worn the Hijab. I live in the US, I swear to you sister WALLAHIE
When I dont wear Hijab I get sexualy looked at… I dont wear tight clothes, but still when I cross a man (at the grocery store or mall or street) I see them STARRING at me… Im not even that good looking, honestly. Men have that weekness! It’s in their nature, when I wear hiab I feel as if Im obeying ALLAH… giving him glory…

I AM A SLAVE OF ALLAH! Which means accepting what He commands whole-heartedly!

When you are out in public next time watch the men… not starring at them just observe them… Youll see them looking at women when they walk by, even turning their heads to see their backside.

Im not trying to act like Im more holy than anyother person, but I feel DIRTY when the men look at me and I see them looking at my chest etc I feel like Im betraying myself, betraying my husband and more importantly my GOD!

Sura Nisa 4:115
" If anyone contends with the Messenger even after guidance has been plainly conveyed to him, and follows a path other than that becoming to men of Faith, We shall leave him in the path he has chosen, and land him in Hell,- what an evil refuge!"

if thats not obvious enough Nisa 4: 65
" But no, by the Lord, they can have no (real) Faith, until they make thee judge in all disputes between them, and find in their souls no resistance against Thy decisions, but accept them with the fullest conviction."

also
33:36 "It is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allah and His Apostle to have any option about their decision: if any one disobeys Allah and His Apostle, he is indeed on a clearly wrong Path."

ALLAH demans us to listen to the Prophet (p)!

One Hadith of Sahih Bukhari: "My Lord agreed with me (Umar) in three things. . . . (2) And as regards the veiling of women, I said ‘O Allah’s Apostle! I wish you ordered your wives to cover themselves from men because good and bad ones talk to them.’ So the verse of the veiling of the women was revealed" (Bukhari, volume 1, book 8, sunnah 395).

We can not contend that hijab is fard!

Watch this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJmuxUghUZY

Allah has made Hijab fard for us.. NOT FOR HIMSELF! He is not inneed of our actions, Allah has told us to fast and to pray… why? not for his benefit Instead for our benefit! Allah knows best!

1- Hijab covers us up were not sex obects
Islam respects women, were like a jewl adiamond, not one should touch us… valuable things are kept guarded… when you go to a museum yo

I love this album. Not simply because I know the artist but because it speaks in lyrical truths about the human spirit. The album begins with a rocking, jazz influenced greeting “Welcome” setting the tone for a novella of moving songs that follow. One of my favorites is “Didn’t We” which takes us on a journey into our past and the memorable good things we acomplished there. Listening to this song made me happy to be a part of the human race and set a path to the future where we can do good things over and over again. Treat yourself to a remarkable experience in the human condition; hope, sanity and a way to go forward in truth. Listen to this album.

it is not haram i have some evidences but they were written in arabic any how we the muslims are not allowed to hurt ourselves. stuffs that will caused a damage for your body are Haram like tattoos , alcohol etc … piercing is alright

Bahai - How do you explain this?

Bahai says that men and women are equal. How do you explain this then?
"- No women are included in the 9-member Universal House of Justice (UHJ) with the sole exception of the widow of Shoghi Affendi. Why only this lady is included? Is she not a normal woman!
- The shroud to be given by the eldest male child. Women are disallowed.
- Polygamy is acceptable but polyandry is banned.
- If a man wishes to travel he should inform his wife of the time duration, which if exceeds nine months the lady has right to remarry. Then if the husband does not specify the time of his journey the wife should wait for him all her life.
- Maintenance of women is obligatory on the man.
- Only women should attend to the household chores.
- No Hajj for women. Nor are they expected to keep the fasts lapsed during the days of menstruation. Why? Tahera Qazvini sanctified her life for Bahaullah but her grave is not included in the Hajj. Why was her body not brought to Akka like others?
- The house and the clothes of a deceased are the sole property of the eldest male child and nothing is there for women. Is this not inequality?"
http://www.bahaiawareness.com/bahai08.html

I’d like to clear up a few things, the first being that the site you listed, bahaiawareness.com, is a known anti-Baha’i site. As such I don’t think you should expect that the information they provide is accurate or presented in context.

Secondly, the Baha’i Faith rests on the equality of men and women as one of its core concepts. However, as many have pointed out in the past, "equality" does not always translate to "identical" (whether in a Baha’i context or a larger context). The Faith recognizes that people all have different capacities.

All that being said:

Polygamy is forbidden in the Baha’i Faith. While Baha’u'llah in the Kitab-i-Aqdas (book of laws, one of the central books of the faith) allowed for husbands to have two wives, it is well-understood to be a rule to accomodate transition for Muslims to the Faith. Later, ‘Abdu’l-Baha (whose interpretation of the religion’s rules is considered infallible) strictly prohibited polygamy signifying that the transitional period was closed.

It is true that the UHJ is an all-male body. Ruhhiyih Khanum (the wife of Shoghi Effendi) was not eligible, nor ever served on, the UHJ. There is no easy answer to why this body is all-male, not even within the Baha’i community. Most Baha’is, men and women alike, take it on Faith that there is a reason unbeknownst to us yet.

The rules on travel that you mentioned are (to the best of my knowledge) largely considered to be obsolete, as they were provided during a time when the fastest transportation available was a horse and travel was extremely dangerous in some parts of the world. You would be hard-pressed to find those rules enforced in modern times.

Rules of inheritance in the Baha’i Faith are very complicated, but it’s EXTREMELY important to point out that those rules only kick in when the deceased has died intestate. In those cases the rules are provided with the hope of having maximum positive effect, but also keep in mind their context–19th century Persia, where it was extremely difficult for a woman to be head of household, much less be employed. If the deceased has written a will, it is completely up to him or her how s/he assigns wealth and property to his/her inheritors–including women. Critics frequently use the Baha’i rules of inheritance to attack the Faith, but the fact remains that those rules are rarely implemented even in modern society where civil laws tend to trump religious ones.

Rules of "maintenance of women" and "household chores", I’m not familiar with the rules you refer to. Again, please keep in mind the context in which these rules wre written–19th century, male-dominated Persia. The rules were not written to suppress women, they were written to allow women as much freedom as could be reasonably expected within a society that was overwhelmingly Muslim and overwhelmingly male-dominated. Even if a Baha’i believes in the complete equality of men and women, there’s nothing that says the doMinant society where that Baha’i lives has to accomodate his/her ideas. Baha’u'llah recognized that.

Referring to Pilgrimage, women are allowed to make pilgrimage. In fact I’m close friends with a woman who just went on a pilgrimage a few weeks ago. Regarding "Tahera", I’m assuming you’re referring to the women whose name Baha’is spell as "Tahirih" in English. I’m sure you would discover with more investigation that moving bodies, especially in the formative age of the Faith, was extremely difficult and dangerous. As far as I’m aware, only The Bab’s remains were brought to Akka from Persia and that was done so at great peril. If there is ever a time when it is safe for Baha’is to pilgrimage to Iran, I’m sure that other important sites such as the one you mentioned will be included in the route.

Women are exempted from fasting during menstruation because of health reasons. (It is not for reasons of purity as someone has mentioned.) The Baha’i version of fasting places a very heavy emphasis on its symbolic significance, and as such those who would be endangered by fasting are not required to do it. Also, anyone (men or women) who misses fasting days for any reason is not required to make up those days (although they certainly can if they wish to).
