Where to Find Cheap Baby Clothes in Hong Kong

Hong Kong – well known as a shopping Mecca. Well, yes it is. But forget Gucci, Prada and Burberry. Here are our best tips on getting good deals on baby clothes in Hong Kong:

<b>Tip 1: Hand-me-downs</b>

Babies grow fast and outgrow their clothes in no time. Local culture says that it’s lucky for a newborn to wear clothes given by a friend/relative.

If you haven’t been offered hand-me-downs, plenty of parents will sell off their slightly used clothes for a few hundred dollars.

Try these local sites:

Ebay HK (now in English)
Asiaxpat

<b>Tip 2: Sample Shops</b>

Trail around Johnston Road in Wan Chai and the back streets of Causeway Bay to pick up British, American and Japanese brands for next to nothing. Baby stuff is often thrown into boxes at the front of the store. You’ll often get stuff for $5 a piece.

Stanley market deserves special mention. You’ll find Next and GAP, Gymboree, Gap, Carter’s, Osh Kosh and many other famous brands that may have some minor flaw. Often, the labels are cut – these are the originals. If the labels are all intact, check closely the quality of the stitching and the labelling to see of they’re fake.

Also, check out Li Yuen Streets in Central, Fa Yuen St in Prince Edward and Lion Rock Rd in Kowloon City.

<b>Tip 3: Local markets</b>

Chinese-made clothes are very reasonably priced and the quality has improved markedly in recent years. Although you may not be able to find 100% cotton, you can find some very good quality basics such as onesies, bibs and real, cloth nappies!

Wan Chai market and Ladies’ market in Mongkok have plenty of stalls stocking baby clothes and other BABY paraphanalia.

Stanley Market carries children’s clothing from most major US brands (Carters, Osh Kosh, GAP, Ralph Lauren) at very inexpensive prices.

Also, check out Marble Road market in North Point.

<b>Tip 4: Citygate Outlets</b>

Take yourself off to Lantau for some bargains. Though not super cheap, you’ll find some huge markdowns (up to 90%) at these outlets. <a href=”http://www.hongkongbabies.com/classifieds/index/view?id=2152932:Classified:1322″>Details</a>

<b>Tip 5: End of season sales</b>

Mothercare, Kingkow, Chickeeduck, etc all have sales at the end of the season. The key here is to plan your shopping well in advance. For example, if your baby is due in summer, buy winter clothes from newborn to 6 months in the previous end of winter sale. And so on…

Concept of Cleanliness in Islam

CONCEPT OF
CLEANLINESS IN ISLAM

Muhammadullah Khalili Qasmi
khaliliqasmi@gmail.com

Cleanliness and purification is one of the great privileges of Islam. It has evolved a wonderful system that encompasses Muslim life on individual and social levels. Islam places great emphasis on cleanliness, in both physical and spiritual terms. The attention to hygiene is the aspect which is an unknown concern in any other religion or philosophy before Islam. While people generally consider cleanliness a desirable attribute, Islam insists on it, making it an indispensable fundamental of faith. Cleanliness is an essential part of Islamic life and in fact the meaning and spirit behind the concept of cleanliness is much beyond the superficial concept of the conventional cleanliness.

In the Holy Quran, there are a number of verses which shed light at the importance of cleanliness: “Truly, Allah loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean.” (Al Baqarah 2:222) At another place Allah says: “In it (mosque) are men who love to clean and to purify themselves. And Allah loves those who make themselves clean and pure.” (9:108) Cleanliness and purity has been emphasized by various means in hundreds of Hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him). In a Hadith he said: Cleanliness is half of faith. (Sahih Muslim Book 2, Number 0432)

The importance of cleanliness can be estimated from the fact that the books of Hadith as well as the Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) start with a chapter on cleanliness. There are two terms used in Islamic literature: taharah and nazafah. Taharah (Cleanliness from physical impurities) is required by Islam to be observed by each and every Muslim in his and her daily life while nazafah (neatness) is a desirable attribute.

There are two kinds of cleanliness; physical and spiritual. As far as physical cleanliness is concerned, it is of two types. One which is related to human body and the other is related to environment, water, house, road and public places. Muslims are required to observe cleanliness from the excretions of the penis, vagina or anus. Semen, sperm, urine, menstruation, vaginal fluid, stool and blood are impure and require compulsory modes of cleanliness. Muslims wash their genitals after passing urine and secretion and take bath every time they have intercourse with their mates. Muslims also enjoined to use water, not paper or anything else after eliMinating body wastes. They are categorically prohibited to have sex with their wives during their menses.

A Muslim is obliged to make ablution if exposed to minor impurities. This means he must wash off those parts of the body (like hand, feet, face, nostrils etc) which are commonly exposed to dust, dirt and environmental pollution. Before every prayer (at least five times a day) and before recital of the Quran, Muslims are asked to perform this ablution. Likewise, Muslims are enjoined to have a Ghusl (bathe) after ejaculation, sexual intercourse, menstruation and puerperium. While at many other occasions, bathing is recommended as for Friday prayer, festival days, in Hajj etc.

Muslims are duty bound to keep the nails clipped, to remove hair from the armpit and from the pubic area as a matter of routine practice. Muslim males are required to get circumcised to avoid even faint traces of urine entrapped in the foreskin of the genitals. They are also instructed to trim their moustaches in order to avert oral intakes. Islam has directed attention in taking care of mouth by using any purifying agent like miswak. Brushing the teeth (once or twice a day) is very recent development of near past, but Muslims are accustomed this herbal brush for the past 1400 years, five times a day prior to each ablution. There are a number of Hadith that lay special stress on cleaning the teeth, hands and hair.

Apart from body, Islam requires a Muslim to keep his clothes, houses and streets clean. In fact a Muslim cannot offer his prayers with unclean body, clothes or using dirty premises. They are asked to use clean water and keep it safe from impurities and pollution. The particular chapter of taharah starts with the classification of water and goes on to describe how water gets impure or polluted.

Moreover, Islam instructed Muslims to maintain the cleanliness of the roads and streets. This is considered a charity to ridding the streets of impurities and filth. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) strictly warned against it and considered it one of the reasons to provoke Allah’s curse and the people’s curse, saying: “Beware of the three acts that cause others to curse you: relieving yourselves in a watering place, on foot paths or shaded places.” (Abu Dawud, No 26)

Apart from physical cleanliness, Islam emphasizes on spiritual cleanliness. This means that one is free from polytheism, hypocrisy and ill manners, love of wealth, love of fame and other carnal desires. The emphasis in Islam is more on the cleanliness of the inner-self that is heart, mind and soul. The external cleaning process and rituals in reality are the preparatory ground work to obtain the more important task and that is cleanliness of the inner-self, which is the ultimate goal of the religion. Islam requires the sincere believer to sanitize and purify his entire way of life. The directives of Zakah (alms) and fasting are nothing but to purify ones wealth and soul.

Cleanliness is the pathway to health and strength. Islam wants a healthy and strong Muslim society which is immune against infectious diseases and is capable of understanding and applying God’s message and carrying it away to the whole world. The Holy Quran says: You are the best community that hath been raised up for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing In Allah. (Surah Aal-Imran, 3/110)

In view of the significance of cleanliness in Islam, Muslims should have the highest standard of cleanliness and personal hygiene of all the people in the world. But, it is highly regrettable that the heap of garbage has become an identity of Muslim homes and localities. The Muslim majority areas are marked with unhygienic and unhealthy conditions.

What does this phrase mean: Los remesas familiares son una mina de oro para Latinoamerica?

Money orders sent to family members are a gold mine for Latin America.

Dream I got married to an Arab?

I know this dream is not literal, at least I don’t think it is. Can someone please translate?

Background Information: Not that I care to marry an Arab in real life and I do not know any Arab males currently. I am a Black American Muslim.
The dreams, all related to eachother by this Arab male’s presence, took place in a series one after another, because I kept on waking up.

Let me first describe the main male in my dream. He’s an Arab very young-youthful looking somewhere in his early 20s. He’s handsome and light-skinned with dark hair. He has this look about his eyes that show that he is sincere towards me. Remember that I do not know any Arab males in real life. He finds me attractive even though I’m not. He wants to marry me. Since him and I are Muslims we can’t date just marry so we barely even know eachother.

The Dream [Which is not in chronological order]:

This Black lady gets married to a Black man and there is a huge celebration which ends shortly after. They are both Muslims and I don’t really know why this is in my dream since I didn’t receive any information about them except seeing them at their wedding.

Me and the Arab were at our Nikah, signing of the marriage contract, where the sheik, islamic religious leader, pronounced us husband and wife. It’s interesting because before I woke up I heard the sheik say "You are now married to…" And he gives the Arab’s exact full name, which I can’t remember except that it had "Al Saud" at the beginning of it.

So far what does this mean? When one is given the full name of a dream character?

Next scene is at an cafeteria-auditorium, I walked all the way over from the library to attend for my wedding. This auditorium was not decorated. Just a plain auditorium with chairs and people sitting. He did not have his family there neither did I. As soon as I walked into this auditorium I am bullied by a bunch of female bullies, maybe around 7 of them. My roommate was one of these bullies, [whom I am NOT getting along with in real life just because she is mean to me and discriMinates against me] But nevertheless I arrive on stage with the audience of strangers including those bullies. Me and "Saud" is on stage with a dude who claims to be experienced in conducting multicultural/religious weddings. At this point I’m wondering why this Arab man finds me attractive when I believe I am ugly. The conductor of the wedding holds my hand up, specifically holds my left ring finger, in front of the audience to show them that in some cultures the husband doesn’t give his bride a ring if he finds her extremely attractive and the bullies in the audience start to laugh because they think I’m ugly. Saud did not give me a ring.

I’m on the beach facing the ocean and in the sand, building a sand castle + leveling the sides of it like a New Orleans levee.

I’m in this class with a Black Christian lady, whom I know in real life, who advises me to go to a place where there will be a lot of virtual Muslims online in a gathering sort of like Hajj, pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Alot of this has to do with race/ethnicity.Are you attracted to other races?
Do you care what people think of you inter-racially dating? I think maybe you ARE attracted to Arab men not only because most are Muslim but physically as well.

I also think your insecure about your looks. That your not worthy of this ‘Saud’.YOU ARE.
Don’t feel insecure, love yourself. You are worth gold & more.

I am sure your future husband will too.

Who would come on a pilgrimage to Yad Vashem and why?

Doing an RE assessment, and its all about Yad Vashem.
Who would come on a pilgrimage to Yad Vashem, and why?

Yad Vashem is a memorial to victims of the Holocaust carried out during World War II and is situated in Jerusalem. Many people who wish to pay tribute to the victims visit, perhaps especially Jews, but not exclusively. It is possible someone would undertake a Pilgrimage to remember someone specific who died.

Top 10 Places to Start a Business

When you are thinking about doing business in America today places like Detroit and New York City are no longer in the running. These cities are now suffering from some major players losing in the financial world causing others to go some place else to start a business. Fertile ground for new business is in some of the most unexpected places. The metro areas and the coasts are now giving way to the popular Midwest and South where fast expansion is underway. The economies in these areas are growing rapidly as business expansion is booming. Atlanta, Georgia seems to be the Mecca for people all over the state to come and open up a business. The overseas auto makers are opening up new waves of prosperity for the residents who are taking advantage of the situation. The workers claim that they do not want a union and are willing to work for less and have employment. There is a large increase in the smaller business around the area which is adding to the economy in an enormous fashion. The cities of various sizes that are around Florida are showing a great increase in business.

The Midwest and South long overdue for business expansion is now coming it their own right with the failures of the “Big Three” automakers and other major companies from the east coast not being able to maintain them. The spoilage that these companies permitted amongst their executives has become the downfall that will only take a turn for the better if the company takes hold of the reigns and changes how business is done. Bailouts are not the solution many financial analysis claim because it is only a bandage. These companies are beginning to bleed heavily from over spending on employee perks and unnecessary equipment. The end result could prove to be a catastrophe for the companies, the economy, and the world if let go unattended. We have large, medium and small cities that still provide great places for business and right now the following rank in the top ten best cities.

1. Atlanta is the leading large city it epitomizes the characteristics of economic diversity and affordability.

2. Riverside-San Bernardino ranks number two with a population of over three million people east of Los Angeles and known as the Inland Empire.

3. Las Vegas is now creating jobs in manufacturing so that tourism is not their only source of income.

4. San Antonio benefits from a strong military presence and a steady population growth.

5. West Palm Beach known for the perceived high quality of life makes it an irresistible lure.

6. Green Bay one of the medium sized cities provides a diversified economy with a hard working, skilled labor force.

7. Madison known for its one-two punch in midsize cities is recognized for the service-driven economic expansion.

8. Sarasota is an affordable coastal region that attracts many skilled immigrants from the north making this one of the fastest growing information-based industrial part of the region.

9. Missoula, Montana provides solid gain in financial and professional business services making it a great place to settle for newcomers. Missoula ranking in as one of the smaller places to live boasts of its beautiful scenery which takes it a long way for anyone looking for a small town to live.

10. Anchorage, Alaska has more than tripled in newcomers and business growth since the oil industry has created employment and made a large boost to the economy for local residents.

Why are Muslims so fond of Nazis?

During the Second World War, Arabs were Hitler´s true allies.
The most prominent Islamic clerics (like the Great Mufty of Jerusalem and Arafat´`s unkle Hajj Amin al Husseini) were personal friends of Nazi´s bonzas and of Hitler himself and even pronounced speeches with the calls to kill the Jews on the German National Radio.
Muslim countries sent the entire divisions to fight the Allies; for example, the 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar , another very “famous” Muslim Waffen SS divisions -The Hanjer Division, which was responsible for the murder of over 90 percent of the Yugoslavian Jewish population, 21st Waffen SS Albanian Muslim division "Scanderberg" (look this video and you will see that Nazis were angels compared to Muslims http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAxrg7nMcs4 ), the 21st infantry "Kama" division . Additional units included a Muslim SS self-defense regiment in the Rashka (Sandzak) region of Serbia, the Arab Legion (Arabisches Freiheitskorps), the Arab Brigade, the Ostmusselmanische SS-Regiment and many others (all in all , more than 100000 Muslims, 8 full-sized Divisions).
After the WWII, more than 8.000 ex-officers of the SS ran to Arabic countries and were received there like "brothers in arms".
In Saudi Arabia soon after the WWII the ex-officers of the SS even created the training camps ,where "the young Muslims were receiving the necessary training to be able to fight our enemies"("Al Arma”,12.05.1952).
Alois Brenner, the right hand of Eichman, found refuge in Syria.
Alois Mozer- in Egypt, as well as the ex -Chief of the Gestapo of Dusselforf Yoahim Daumling(in Egipt he organized the Secret Service of this country, and his aide was the ex-chief of the Gestapo of Warsowia).
But why did they run to Islamic countries? Maybe there is something in Islam which made these Nazis sure they would feel fine in Islamic environment?
Both H.A.Nasser and Anvar Saddat were Nazi´s officers and served under Rommel.
The portrait of Hitler was in the center of H.A.Nasser´s Presidential office, and for very long time Muammar Quaddafi had such a portrait in his office, too.
"Mein Kampf" until today is the bestseller in Arab countries, second after the koran.
And finally, look at these photos

What is the expalnation of this strange "love"?
Cherie, i am some 4000 kms from him.

because they are like minded

Ramadan: Let me share a little story with you. Take from it what you will?

One day a group of Muslim guys who looked very pious masha’Allah, walking with their gazes lowered and their beards left ungroomed, etc. were walking by our house. Our neighbours have a lovely garden and to the outside of it are a bunch of Yucca plants (Adam’s needle - the ones with the pointy tip). Passing by it, the group was stopped in their tracks and intrigued by the beauty of the plant. They stood there for about 10-15 minutes just looking at it and examining it and saying "SubhanAllah" "Subhan al Khaleq" "Masha’Allah" "look at the beauty of them!", etc. while a couple across the pavement was giving them funny looks and stifling their smiles. The group were particualry caught by some young closed "white flowers" on the tips (which were the reason they stopped to look in the first place) and were marveling over them and over the percision of God’s creation in having each leaf end in a perfectly identical white shapes.

In reality though our neighbours have grandchildren who come over often and play and run around in the garden. To sort of "baby-proof" it, they added these little white filler packaging things (not sure what they’re called) to block the points of the plants in case the children are running around over there. There were no "flowers".

The End.

BQ: Ayahs to start off the weekend :) (share more if you like):

A’uthu billahi min ashaytani irrajim
Bismi Illahi Irrahmani Irrahim

Have they not travelled through the land, and have they hearts wherewith to understand and ears wherewith to hear? Verily, it is not the eyes that grow blind, but it is the hearts which are in the breasts that grow blind. [I particularly love and have always loved the expression "hearts ... to understand" and "in the breasts ... grow blind"]
( ???? ???? , Al-Hajj, Chapter #22, Verse #46)

Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah: verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest .
( ???? ????? , Ar-Rad, Chapter #13, Verse #28)

Allah will not call you to account for that which is unintentional in your oaths, but He will call you to account for that which your hearts have earned. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Forbearing.
( ???? ?????? , Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #225)

For, believers are those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a tremor in their hearts, and when they hear His signs rehearsed, find their faith strengthened, and put (all) their trust in their Lord.
( ???? ??????? , Al-Anfal, Chapter #8, Verse #2)

Peace :)
Bismillahi wal hamdulillah wassalatu wassalamu ala Rasoolillah,

And the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah alone, so call on Him by these Names. And leave aside those people who turn away from the Truth with regard to His Names. Soon will they be punished for the (impious acts) that they perpetrate.
(al-A‘r?f, 7:180)

And who remain steadfast in seeking the pleasure of their Lord, and establish Prayer and spend (both) secretly and openly out of the sustenance We have provided and continue eliMinating evil by means of good; they are the ones for whom there is a (beautiful) home in the Hereafter.
(ar-Ra‘d, 13:22)

(Greeting and felicitating them, they will say:) ‘Peace be upon you as a reward for your patience. So (see now) what a beautiful home it is of the Hereafter!’
(ar-Ra‘d, 13:24)

For them there are (everlasting) Gardens with streams flowing under their (palaces). They will be adorned with bracelets of gold in these Gardens, and they will wear green attires of fine brocade and heavy silk. And there they will recline upon raised and richly adorned thrones. What an excellent reward and how beautiful a resting place!
(al-Kahf, 18:31)

Allah is (His Self-Name) besides Whom there is no God (i.e. believe in Him alone and deny all other false gods). There are (also) many other Beautiful Names for Him (that speak of His most beautiful and fascinating attributes).
(T?h?, 20:8)

Well, Who has created the heavens and the earth and poured down water for you from the atmosphere in the sky? Then with that (water) We brought forth fresh and beautiful gardens. It was not possible for you to grow plants in these (gardens). Is there any (other) God besides Allah? In fact, they are the people who are turning away (from the path of Truth).
(an-Naml, 27:60)

In truth in (the holy being of) Allah’s Messenger [blessings and peae be upon him] there is for you a most perfect and beautiful model (of life) for every such person that expects and aspires to (meeting) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah abundantly.
(al-Ahz?b, 33:21)

And (in the same way) We spread out the earth and We placed in it heavy mountains and produced in it every kind of beautiful plants.
(Q?f, 50:7)

Allah is He Who is the Creator, the One Who brings into existence from nothingness (i.e. the Inventor), the Bestower of Form; (in short,) all Beautiful Names belong to Him alone. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him, the Lord of Honour, the Most Wise.
(al-Hashr, 59:24)
