This question does not make sense. You propose that since so many people break the law, there should be no punishment. That is like asking why have prison sentences for criminals if so many crimes are committed? The US Department of Justice Crime statistics can be viewed here, if you doubt the sheer numbers of crimes being committed.

Why not believe them both? Many of the Prophet (pbuh)’s claims have been proven scientifically. Much of the scientific knowledge we hold dear today is borne out of research and theories that have some origins in the Islamic world. Moreover, scientists are constantly revising their theories, throwing away what was once widely believed, in favour of some new theory. When you think of what a "proven science" phrenology was, you can easily see how people will at least listen a merchant.

Without having any so called contradictions to compare and analyze, one can assume it is likely that what appear to be contradictions are simply a case of differing situations. If I ask what should I do about my mother, and then ask what to do about my sister, I may get different answers. Just because they are both women doesn’t mean I should apply either solution to my problem with my female friend (I hope I never have so many problems!)

No, it isn’t stupid. I don’t want more than 1 guy. There are numerous hurdles that a man must jump in order to have a second (third, fourth) wife, despite what some corrupt people do. Muslim men are not supposed to take additional wives based on desire, only on need. Nevertheless, are you aware that there are more cases of polygamy in the US than in the middle east?
