What is the punishment for not going to hajj in your lifetime?
My grandmother was devote woman who prayed 5 times a day, fasted, fufilled her duties as wife, etc. She was however unable to make the pilgrimage to Mecca as she did not have the financial means. So is there even a punishment if so what? Will those who don’t go get punished?
? If you are unable to perform Hajj due to real life problems such as financial problems which you cannot control, you are not obligated to perform Hajj. Allaah will not punish her for financially not being able to:

((And the Hajj is incumbent upon mankind for the sake of Allah, for those who can afford to undertake journey to it; and whoever denies, then surely Allah is Self-sufficient, independent of the worlds.))
Only if you are able to make the Pilgrimage.

if they die, someone can make hajj on their behalf as long as they have made hajj for themself first.
