How can a person stop from doing haram things?

it can be anything, basically whatever Haram.

even if a person does stop and ask for forgiveness then ends up doing it again, how can they stop for once and for all?

Personally, I don’t base my morality on the rantings of bronze age zealots.

As an atheist, I find that everybody is human and we do human things. Sometimes we make mistakes. The only way to stop making mistakes is to stop being human.

Also, I’m not into forgiveness. Instead, I look at the good and bad in all people. There are some people I dislike more than I like. I tend to stay away from them. If later, they change or I see them in a better light, I may change my opinion about them. That happens whether or not I happen to forgive any particular action they take.

It’s more important to respect people for who they are than to check off a list of things you have to fogive of them.

good luck with that…if your religion forbids random things that are normal human behavior, then youre doomed to be a sinner.

Tha’labah al-Asadi asked the Messenger (s) of Allah about this verse:

O you who believe! Take care of your souls; he who errs cannot hurt you when you are on the right way. (5:105)

The Messenger (s) of Allah said, ‘Enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil, and be forbearing in whatever afflicts you, until such time when you see meanness obeyed and passions followed, and when everyone will have conceit about their own opinion, then you should concern yourself only with yourself, and ignore the affairs of the common people.’

Whoever guards his heart from heedlessness, protects his self from appetites, and guards his intellect from ignorance, will be admitted into the company of the vigilant. Then he who guards his knowledge from fancies, his faith from innovation, and his property from the forbidden is among the righteous.

The Messenger (s) of Allah said, ‘This world lasts but an hour, so spend it in obedience to Allah.’

Those of His servants who are possessed of knowledge fear Allah.(35:28)

The Messenger of Allah said, ‘It is a duty for every Muslim, man and woman, to seek knowledge,’ that is, knowledge of the self. Therefore it is necessary for the self to be in all states either expressing his gratitude or proffering his excuse for lack of gratitude. If this is acceptable to Allah it is a favour upon him, and if not it is justice upon him. For every self it is necessary to work that it may succeed in its acts of obedience, and for its protection in its efforts to abstain from doing harm.

To stop from doing haram things one may need :

    1. Fear of Allah
    2. Will power
    3. Determination from the doer him/her self
    4. Finding a Halal alternative
    5. Avoiding being alone
    6. Concentration on Religious matters
    7. Reading Al-Qur’aan once you get an opportunity to do a haraam thing.
    8. Saying Astaghfaar (seeking pardon with determination).
    9. Praying 5 times a day, regularly, come what may.
    10. Praying additional rakaaths of prayers, imploring, seeking help of Allah to get rid of a bad habit.

In will power there is none in the world stronger than a Muslim. This is manifest from the month of Ramadhan. Almost 100% of haraam things and other smaller sins are stopped by every fasting Muslim for the full 30 days.

Hence, fasting also prevents haraam doings. You cannot fast every day other than Ramadhan, but one day of the week (Monday as Sunnah) will also help to keep the crime rate low.

First try to kill the strongest Haraam commitment, other habits will not need more efforts, then.

    Hope this will help

Firstly , whatever Islam forbids is harmful and troubles the human’s life in a way or another. Here are some bad effects of sins http://www.islam-qa.com/en/ref/23425/sins

Secondly, it’s the nature of the human that he sins. But Islam urges the muslim to quit any sins and make repentance whenever he does any , even if he does them again and again. http://www.islam-qa.com/en/ref/45887/sins

Thirdly , it depends on the human’s will and decision and this is the test of this life. In the hereafter there will be a big difference between those who tried their best to obey Allah taala , and those who have done whatever they desired neglecting Allah’s commands.

May Allah subhanhu wataala forgive us all.

just remember Allah, listen to Islamic music, like Sami Yusuf, listen to Surahs. Even when watching Tv or ding whatever, just recite "Laila ilalah" or "Allahu Akbar" to urself. After a while, u wont need these methods to remind u, u will naturally remember Allah and stay away from haram.

FYI, human being are by nature sinful, this doesnt justify it rather t explains it, so dont kill ur self over a sin or sins sister. The fact that u r inquiring about this is beautiful.

    Salam

Read and Study Quran and ask for Allah’s forgiveness
    as Al-Qur’an says
[5]. Surah Al-Ma’idah [The Table Spread With Food]

Ayat 34. Except for those who (having fled away and then) came back (as Muslims) with repentance before they fall into your power; in that case, know that Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful.

    Hadith
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah [S.A.W.W](P.B.U.H) said, "Allah says: `I am just as My slave thinks of Me when he remembers Me.’ By Allah! Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than one of you who unexpectedly finds in the desert his lost camel. `He who comes closer to Me one span, I come closer to him a cubit; and he who comes closer to Me a cubit, I come closer to him a fathom; and if he comes to Me walking, I come to him running".
    [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Ma’idah Ayat 34 "with repentance before they fall into your power; in that case, know that Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful". This Hadith highlights the merits of sincere repentance and then expecting good treatment of Allah. But this has to be backed by good actions, in the same way as one can hope for good results after ploughing and sowing seeds. It is obvious that one who accomplishes good deeds will expect good consequences, and one who does evil deeds will expect evil consequences. Allah will treat people according to their expectation that are founded on their actions, and the reward will match their deeds.
