Is it haram to listen to music with string instruments?

I have been told that it is Haram to listen to these instruments. I am not sure but I know I will have a hard time giving this music up if it is in fact Haram.

I am not bothered with all this petty stuffs as a Muslim.

I think people are being hypocrysy by making these type of things of utmost importance.

I hear to Islamic related songs and music, I dont mind if its string instruments or others.

I don’t think so, as long as the song does not include blashphemy,
    swearing.or bad words.

I wouldn’t think so. Stringed instruments have been a part of Eastern culture a very long time. Songs of praise to God can be sung with stringed instruments, even as David, prophet and king of Israel showed.

Not all music is equally worshipful, of course. One must be selective.

    Peace to you.

What about a digitally fabricated facsimile of a stringed instrument? And what about a piano it has strings? Snare drums have strings? And what T F about the whole universe and STRING theory? Huh?
