Is it permissible for the woman in Ihraam to cover her face?

It is permissible for the woman who is in a state of Ihraam to cover her face with an adjoining/alternative (cloth) other than the niqaab and the burqa’.

During hajj niqab is not fard. Its Mustahib if some one put on niqab that is more of her righteousness. :)
References :
Is that the full hadith from Aishah in your second point ? @ Ducky, etc, I dont think the sister is against following the Prophet's wives, but this is an issue in which we seek to see the evidence for and against. I don't think anyone here disagrees oon whether it is better to follow the wives of the Prophet or not. The kuffar disagreeign with us or not does not matter to us. Please don't use that shallow argument against your fellow brothers and sisters when they are trying to understand an issue..Our scholars, from the salaf, used to disagree..even the sahabah disagreed on some issues ! And this is from someone who views niqab as fard in general, but I am of difference of view regarding during hajj.

Addition : I think, personally, when you look at this issue with all the ahadeeth on it, it seems that the veiling of face in Hajj is highly recommended, not obligatory. Otherwise, we can't explain the statement of Aishah and the Prophet's action of turning the head of the sahabi, etc. For thsoe who disagree still, either you deny these narrations or you can explain how these narrations fit in...obviously, if it was obligatory, then why woudl the Prophet not command that woman to cover her face, and Aishah as well !?

Yes, the face is centre of beauty and what not...but this is not the way to legislate in Islaam. Allaah legislates for humanity as He created. If you use that argument, then I can say cover the eyes as well, because it is the centre of beauty of the face...etc.. So upon us is to find out what Allaah legislated, and submit to that. it doesn't matter how passionate we are on a certain topic, as passion does not mean correctness.

Wa alaykum salaam

Ask your self sister, what is better for a Believing woman, to emulate the ways of those who were the best, or going by what we feel is required or not??

When in a state of ihram, the muslimah cannot wear niqab. However, according to several scholars, such as Sheikh ibn Baz, even when in a state of ihram, "she should lower her headcovering or outer cloak over her face when she is in the presence of non-mahram men." So, it is to say that she should not cover her face around the other women during ihram, but that she should cover it if a non-mahram man approaches. He bases this on the hadith below, narrated by 'Aisha .

In Fathul Bari, chapter Hajj, a tradition reported on the authority of Aisha (RA) says:

"A woman in a state of Ihram (during Hajj and Umrah) should stretch her head - cloth over to her face to hide it."

Hadith - Recorded by Ahmad, Abu Dawud and ibn Majah, Narrated 'Aisha.

So, whether agreeing that niqab is required or not, one must surely acknowledge that it is a desirous sign of piety. What better example of sunnah to follow for a muslimah than that of the Prophet (saw) and his wives (ra). Every Muslimah is encouraged to cover to the fullest.

A woman does not have to wear a niqab (affixed veil), but she should emulate the female companions by using her hijab or other items, to lift and cover her face when a non-mahram man approaches, even during ihram (hajj), as this is in accordance with sunnah.

**It would be better if you put the hadith in english too, not all of us are able to read and understand Arabic**
--

Jazak'Allah Khair, I thought you just put an overview and the full hadeeth in Arabic.
References :
does Covering Face was fard in the prophet's wives ??
sure yes

so why they did not wear niqab in hijah ??

the prophet PBUH said do not wear niqb and that does not mean she should uncover her face

It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah said: The riders used to pass by us when we were with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in ihraam. When they came near us we would lower our jilbaabs from our heads over our faces, and when they had passed by we would uncover our faces. Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1562.
