Is it legal to build a Christian church in Mecca, Saudi Arabia?
I am asking because of the controversy over a mosque planned to be built near Ground Zero in New York City.
If it would be good for Americans to reach out to Muslims, would it also be good for Saudi Arabians (or any other Muslims) to reach out to Christians and Jews? What steps have Muslims taken to improve their reputation with respect to these groups?
I am asking the question because there seems to be "outreach" from the West towards the Muslim community. I am wondering if the opposite is also the case.
Saudi Arabia forbids the practice of any other religion than Islam on it’s soil. Furthermore, no building is permitted for any other religious group. It is also forbidden to drink alcohol or even have to have it in your home. It is also forbidden to consume any meat from the pig. I know this from the fact that I was based in Saudi Arabia for over 2 years in the 1980’s and it has not changed a bit since then.

Muslims take no steps to improve relations with ANY other religion. And, to have a Mosque built any near Ground Zero is an insult to humanity.

Building a place of worship anywhere in the 21t century is a waste of time. Wouldn’t a science lab be far better? Or a school? Instead of wasting materials on stupid religion?

There is freedom of religion in America. You cannot deny anyone the practice of their religion, anywhere. Is the same true in Saudi Arabia?

No, no one can build Christian Church in Mecca and Madina (both are Holy cities), Saudi Arabia.
But you or anyone can build Christian Church anywhere in the world.
Regarding the said controversy, Mosque could be build near Ground Zero (because freedom of religion exists in USA).
Like wise you can build a Christian Church in my country (Pakistan) and there exits many Christian Churches in our country.

Dear
It is not allowed to build a church anywhere in Saudi arabia, not only in Mecca. So the reaon is not because non-Musilims are not allowed to enter Mecca, like what is said in the comment #6. There are many Chrisitans in all other Saudi Arabia cities, and Saudi Arabia is the country of Islam that says ‘No obligation in Religion’, and ‘everybody can have his own religion’.. However churches cannot be built, because the country doesn’t allow it, full stop..!!
