Is it appropriate for a Lutheran seminarian to wear an orthodox cassock on an ascetic pilgrimage?
I graduate from seminary this June. I want to go on a pilgrimage to reenact Christ’s sending of the 72 disciples in Luke. I want to walk from Milwaukee, WI to River Falls, WI. I want this to be an ascetic and spiritual experience, therefore I felt I should closely follow the rules of monastic living for the two weeks it would take me to walk that distance.
If you wear "an orthodox cassock", what exactly does that mean? You’re not Jewish nor are you Catholic. Wear whatever you want to, but don’t pretend through the way you dress that you’re someone you’re not. By the way, I never heard of a Lutheran seMinarian going on a reenactment Pilgrimage. You can live an aesthetic experience by camping out in your back yard.

Eh. It’s clothes. Does Jesus care what you wear other than His robes of righteousness? If it makes you feel better, do it, I guess. If other people give you guff, remember that it’s the rules of men that are being played with, not God’s rules.

Perosnaly- I say if you are going to wear an Orthodox cassock bring a chotki and say the Jeuss prayer "Jesus Christ son of God have mercy on me a sinner" as you walk the way of the pilgrim.
