Why do some Christians go on pilgrimages and what are the effects which this pilgrimage might have on them?
I’m studying religious studies and i need to have a range of views for my coursework. Your views would really help
thanks. Christian or not. Whatever your views.
Pilgrimages serves as almost a "internship of the soul." It allows one to learn about various cultures, and how they relate to the history of the Church, and of Christianity, from a more hands-on approach.
In many cases, these Pilgrimages can affirm the faith of an individual in very remarkable ways, and by the time they are done, they are full prepared to defend that faith with their lives.

its a tradition. Started in order to be close to various relics. These relics were thought to have healing power, so many ill people made these trips. Many people today do a pilgrimage in order to be close to god, so they can say they did, because they are interested in history, or because they believe it is part of being christian. Most religions have some sort of trip asociated with them that in a way removes the person from their day to day worl and brings tem into a state of mind where they are spiritually trying to find themselves with the aid of god.
