arz-e-nayaz-e-ishaq ke qabil nahi -Ghalib by Asad Amant Ali

Asad Amanat Ali Khan was born in Lahore, Pakistan. His great-grandfather, Ali Baksh Khan, was the founder of the Patiala Gharana. His grandfather, Akhtar Hussain, was a prominent musician of his time who added to his repute by coaching two of his sons into becoming a formidable singing duo(Amanat Ali Khan and Fateh Ali Khan). Amanat Ali Khan, Asad’s father, died in 1974. Asad’s younger brother Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan is a popular pop singer When he was 10 years old Asad recorded his first song, which featured on his grandfathers debut album. He had also been interested in academics and often said if not a singer, he would love to be a pilot. He joined a private institution however and began singing professionally after completing his F.A. He started his musical career performing “Thumri” and then went on to record some of his most popular Punjabi numbers and Ghazals, such as “Umra Lagian”, “Zara Zara”, “Kal Chaudwin Ki Raat”, and “Ghar Wapas Jab”. One of the songs that featured in almost every concert he performed, arguably his biggest hit, was “Insha Ji Utho” (Originally sung by his father).
Asad worked for Pakistan Television for several years. Nisar Bazmi, composer and PTV producer, who died one week before him, gave him his first break, introducing the artist to the world on live television. He retained his affiliation with television through the years, recording over 1,000 songs. Asad also contributed to the Pakistani film industry, featuring on a number of soundtracks. Moreover, he caught the attention of neighboring Bollywood and contributed to soundtracks there too.
Asad also sang as a member of singing duo with his uncle Hamid Ali Khan. Asad owed much of his early recognition to his late father’s famous numbers. Quite often his concert would round off with “Insha’a Jee utho, abb cooch karo” (Get up O Insha! It’s time to leave the world) — a song that finds another ironic reference in Asad’s death. Ibn-e-Insha who wrote it, Amanat Ali and Asad Amanat who sang it — all died relatively young. Other than music and the family name, Asad inherited from his father a passion to act in films. But the affair was cut short after an unsuccessful attempt.
Asad Amanat Ali was also famed for his “soz-o-salam” recitations in Urdu describing the events of Karbala during Ashura in Muharram, and appeared on many radio and television specials about Karbala over the years before his death.

Dua Mashlool [Part 2 of 2]

Dua Mashlool [Part 2 of 2]

This dua known as “supplication of the youth stricken for his sin,” is quoted from the work of Kaf-ami and from Muhaj al Da-wat by Sayyid ibn Tawus. Through Imam Hussain (as) it is reported that one day he and his father, after performing Hajj, caught sight of a paralyzed young man crying his eyes out in repentance. They went near to console him and find out the reason of his sorry plight. He was a habitual sinner, always teased his father, disobeyed him and treated him with contempt. One day, disgusted, the father invoked curse upon him. So he was affected with paralysis. Then and there Imam Ali ibn abi Talib (as) wrote his dua and gave it to him with instruction to recite after Isha salat. Next day fully cured, he came to Imam Ali and said that he had recited the dua as told and went to sleep. He saw the Holy Prophet (pbuh) in the dream. The holy prophet, gently touched his body with his hand and asked him to remember this dua as it contain ism-e-azam (the great names of Allah).

Recite this dua after Isha salat. It brings countless blessings. All your legitimate desires will be fulfilled. It drives away poverty and sickness. Sins are for given. Debts are cleared. Enemies become friends. Domestic affairs are set aright. Disputes are settled in your favour. Prisoners are set free mental worries disappear. Prosperity, sound mind and healthy body stand by you at all times.
Mercy and forgiveness of sins are the main advantages the almighty Allah makes available if this dua is recited regularly.

Lifting the Hood - Iraq

November 2005
As the ‘hooded man’ in the infamous Abu Ghraib pictures, Haj Ali became an icon of everything that was wrong with the US occupation. He tells his story and we hear from other prisoners

“They stretched my hands in this position and attached the wires to them”, states Haj Ali. “It felt like my eyes were popping out. I couldn’t stand it.” He spent three months being physically and psychologically tortured at Abu Ghraib. Interrogators wanted him to use his knowledge as a community leader to inform on other people. “They said ‘give us the name of anyone you hate and we’ll see it as co-operation and help you.’” In a nearby cell, army general Abu Maan was also being interrogated. “They stripped me and took photos of me in degrading positions”, he recalls. Both men are angry that only junior officers have been disciplined for the abuse that went on at Abu Ghraib. Ilham al-Jumaili’s husband Munadel was tortured to death there. It’s his corpse that Sabrina Harman was photographed gloating over. “We didn’t expect America to take Munadel and never return him”, she laments. The victims of Abu Ghraib remain haunted by their experiences. In the words of Haj Ali “Only one thing has changed. The cameras have now disappeared The abuse still continues.”
