This is a documentary about Islam, the fastest growing religion in the world. This program observes the rites, rituals, and religious fervor of Hajj, an annual Muslim Pilgrimage to Mecca (Makkah), the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Viewers will follow an executive from suburban Malaysia, a religious radio commentator from rural South Africa and an Irish-born college professor from the United States on the spiritual journey of a lifetime.

In the middle of Mecca is a great mosque called the al-Masjid al-Haram, inside is the Kaabah, the 50-foot tall, black-draped shrine that is Islam’s most revered structure.

According to Islamic teachings God commanded the Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) to raise the foundations of the Kaabah as a place for worship. Thousands of years later, after the Kaabah had become a center of pagan worship, the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) cleansed it of its many idols and rededicated it to the worship of the one God, who in Arabic is called Allah.

Today, pilgrims retrace the steps of Prophet Abraham (pbuh) and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as they perform the rites of the hajj with their fellow pilgrims.

Most scholars are of the opinion that women cannot travel alone. They must be accompanied by a Mahram (a relative with whom marriage is prohibited). Therefore, in journeys such as Hajj they do not allow women to travel alone. The following Ahadith are the basis of their view:

It is narrated by Abu Hurayrah:

?? ??? ?????? ???? ????? ?????? ????? ????? ????? ??? ????? ??? ?? ?? ???? ?????) ???? ???: ????(

It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to travel a distance for one day and one night without a Mahram with her. (Muslim, No: 1339)

Abu Said narrates that the Prophet (sws) said:

??? ?? ????? ?????? ????? ????? ??? ????? ????? ?? ?? ???? (???? ???: ???)

A woman is not to travel a distance for two days except with her husband or Mahram with her. (Muslim, No: 827)

It needs to be appreciated that there are a number of Ahadith in which directives have been given by the Prophet (sws) for the well-being of the Muslims. However, if the circumstances in which such directives have been given change, then as is the case with all conditional directives such directives may no longer apply in the changed circumstances.

The directives given to Muslim women about travelling belong to the above mentioned category. To ensure a safe journey for a woman and to protect her moral character from any scandalous allegation in the strife ridden society of Arabia, the Prophet (sws) bade them travel with a Mahram relation.

Thus, all tours and journeys etc in which the above two bases still exist, the condition of a woman travelling with a Mahram must be followed. However, with the changed circumstances of modern times, travelling has become a lot different from what it used to be in previous days. There are some travels in which safety both physical as well as moral is ensured. So, in such cases, the Mahram condition no longer applies. As far as the decision as to which journeys have become safe is concerned, the traveller must decide for herself.

Day 01 - Step 02 - Entering into Makkah on 8th of ZilHajjah.

1. Du’a - Outside Makkah:

1. a. O Allah! Surely this is Your Sacred Place and the Sacred Place of Your Prophet (Sallalaahu Alayhi Wasallam). So forbid the fire upon my flesh, blood, bones and skin. O Allah! Grant me protection from Your Punishment on the Day on which Your servants will be raised.

1. b. O Allah! The Town (Makkah) is Your Town and the House (Ka’bah) is Your House. I have come seeking Your Mercy, holding onto Your Obedience, following Your Order, pleased with Your Decree, and submitting to Your Command. I am asking of You the request of a distressed one (unto You), trembling of Your punishment, fearing Your wrath, that You engulf me with Your pardon, with Your Mercy, forgive me and that You place me in Your Paradise.

2. Du’a - When Entering Masjid-ul-Haraam

In the name of Allah, O Allah! Shower Your Mercy upon Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam). O Allah! Forgiver my sins and open for me the door of Your Mercy.

3. Du’a - On Sighting the Ka’bah

O Allah! You are Peace and Peace comes from You. So keep us alive, our Lord in peace. O Allah! Increase dignity, honor, nobility and awe of this House and increase dignity, honor, nobility, and piety of one who performs Hajj or ‘Umrah.
