How to remove Hatred and Rancor from the hearts of others?
One of my favorite stories from Sira is one in which a man named Fudala -at the time a Mushrik- desired to kill the Prophet Muhammad [saas]. So he broke the tip off of an arrow and dipped it in poison, and concealed it in his cloak. He then went to the Prophet [saas] who was making Tawaf around the Ka’ba, and the Prophet [saas] saw him and asked, "What dialogue are you having within yourself, O Fudala?" And Fudala responded, "Nothing O Muhammad! Just watching the people make tawaf around the Ka’ba." So the Prophet [saas] made another circumbabulation, and then again asked Fudala, who was hesitating, "O Fudala, what dialogue are you having within yourself?" -Again, Fudala denied that he was up to anything, and again the Prophet [saas] made Tawaf, returned to Fudala and asked him again what inner monologue he was having. Fudala again denied, and so the Prophet [saas] walked up to him, placed his blessed hand on the chest of Fudala, and said, "A heart full of hatred and rancor, which conceals a poison arrow."
Fudala later said, "By Allah, when he put his hand on my chest, there was none in the world that I hated more than him. And by Allah, when he removed his hand from my chest, there was none in the world that I loved more than him."
We, as an ummah, are the spiritual inheritors of our Prophet Muhammad [saas], and we need to be the hand that is gently placed on the chests of those who have hatred and rancor in the hearts… but where are such Muslims today?
So my question is, how can we remove the hatred and rancor of others, as our blessed, noble, and wonderful Prophet Muhammad [saas] did?
Salaam/Peace
Edit @ Abdul Malik: I ask Allah [swt] to bless you and me. I ask Allah [swt] to cover you in His Mercy in this life and the next. I ask Allah [swt] to give you all that you want from the dunya and the akhira. I ask Allah [swt] to give you a gentle disposition, a sound heart, and good character. I ask Allah [swt] to increase you in knowledge, to marry you from among the most beautiful of the houra’yn in Jannah, and to save you from every distress in this life and the heareafter! Ameen!
Edit@Abdul Malik: You are welcome for the du’a! I just went to pray Asr at my favorite little masjid here in Egypt… and while making sujuud in Jama’ah, I remembered you in my du’a. I asked Allah [swt] to give you the same things I’ve asked for above! I hope that Allah [swt] blesses you in this life and the next!
Salaam/Peace
Ya akhi, thank you for the dua, may Allaah accept it…but the fact remains, you have not answered my questions..here are they again :
??whats the SOURCE for this hadeeth ?
??why do you call yourself shia/sufi/sunni..etc…? Are you unaware of what the correct aqeedah is ?
As I said, you callign yourself Shaykh might work on some naive brothers, but when I see someone working in islamic television (knowing the kind of modernist material they churn out..can’t be on television if you are a lion like Ibn Taymiyyah, etc can you ?)…claiming he is sufi/shia/sunni, etc…that makes me very cautious…
I advise brothers and sisters to be very careful who they take their deen from…a long beard, a title..not good enough.
Now answer the above questions.

Love the Truth above all. Your only allegiance is to the Truth. Everyone and everything else, ransom it in the path of Truth, al-Haqq.
I was conditioned into venerating certain personalities…but then I realised that I was reading books and defending the indefensible, a sense of delusion was setting in…and then I decided to give it all up. If history can actually show that Khalid bin Walid was a rapist, then why should I defend him?
Reach out for the Truth and grasp it with open arms free of all prejudice and predilections….may your journey be fruitful…

You cannot change the hearts of others, only they have that power ultimately.

Wa alaykum salaam brother.
SubhanAllah such an inspiring post !!
If only a person loves and hates for the sake of Allah, loving all things that are halal and hating that which is forbidden, and hating the sins but not the person.. Then Insha’Allah our hearts will be free of hatred and rancor

Islam came to remove Jahiliya or Ignorance from the hearts of the Ignorant people then,
who fought all the time,
where ashamed of having a girl child,
hated being one whoes daughter was married to a man and brought rights for women in inheritance,
in marriage, in re marriage,
established laws for a better society to prevail
and to punish only the guilty
sad the very reason for all this is a bone of contention today

As-salam.
Dear brother when you go searching for such a muslim, you decrease the chances of finding him within yourself. None of us is perfect that leaves us no room for blaming others or expecting others to do what we also can potentialy do. Albeit we muslims as an ummah are in a state of divine punishment for the deeds our hands sent forth, there is room enough for us to reach the golden age of our history.
Today enmity and hatred has become one of the basic problems that need to be rectified. You can only remove hatred from the hearts of people by display of compasion and love, simply do the opposite of whats evil but with ardent fervour. We as indivduals need to inculcate the true spirit of islam within ourselves. Humans are social beings, we as individuals comrise the society. When we change ourslves only then can we change our dilapidated state of affairs.
Allah does not change the state of people until they change what is within themselves. Remember once upon a time in history, Islam was inside the mind of single man(prophet Muhammed s.a.w) then it multiplied. Had He(Muhammed s.a.w) given up hope due to the fact He war alone things would have been different. But He kept his resolve at time of tribulation and plenty, and magnificent display of unparalled character which won hearts of men. There character endowned with compassion, mercy and was powerful enough to bend the wills and inclinations of the most staunchest enimes of islam and convert there hatred into love and awe for Him. In the character and life of Muhammed (s.a.w).
